How these workshops unfold

Each participant is invited to send Katie a poem two weeks ahead of time (allowing Katie enough time to read, absorb and give focused feedback on the piece). Poems will be distributed to the entire group ahead of time–we will learn sound editing practices through giving and receiving feedback on all pieces offered to the group.

Feedback is given in the AWA Method. We will start by discussing what is already working well in the poem, look at craft elements, form, figurative language, etc.

Then we will investigate what could be tightened up, improved, honed or pruned to make the poem the best possible version of itself. We will polish up the poem to be a gem that is worthy of publication or contest.

As well, each participant receives extensive notes from Katie as well as from the participants in the group.

These editing circles are designed to deepen each participant’s craft through exploring different techniques for revision on a participant’s own work, as well as the work of their colleagues in the workshop.

Prepayment is required to hold your space – workshops fill quickly.

Date: Monthly on Sundays, Mondays and/or Wednesdays (check below for specific dates)

Time: 1:00pm EST to 3:30pm EST

In the coming months I will offer occasional spontaneous “pop-up” sessions. Make sure you’re on my subscription list to be notified.
